Google reveals the Chromium OS it uses to run
its own containers
Google's decided the Chromium OS is its
preferred operating system for running containers in its own cloud. And why wouldn't
it – the company says it uses it for its own services.
The Alphabet subsidiary offers a thing called
“Container-VM” that it is at pains to point out is not a garden variety
operating system you'd ever contemplate downloading and using in your own bit
barn. Container-VM is instead dedicated to running Docker and Kubernetes inside
Google's cloud.
Google I/O 2016: What to expect
Google
is taking I/O 2016 back to the
mothership this year. Instead of holding it at a convention center in San
Francisco, the company is hosting the event at the Shoreline Amphitheater
outdoor concert venue in its Mountain View backyard (no, really). The show is meant
to educate developers about using Google's platforms, but the reason we all
tune in is to see product updates and big, brand-new things from the Internet
giant.
